I used to like Twitter then it really started to suck and then once Elon bought it, it became downright unusable as the far-right troll bots descend on any interesting thread and infest it with their useless comments. Which I think is the point – their actual posts aren’t useful to anyone, but they manage to make the platform unusable to liberal points of view. Basically, they are denying the field to people, and points of view, that they disagree with.
Instagram is fun, but the format makes it hard to get new points of view or to read about anything substantive.
Tiktok: I don’t have time to watch people rant on about whatever topic that they could cover in a 255 letter tweet.
Facebook: I was never that much of a fan, and didn’t use it that much, but at least it was a good way of seeing what my friends were up to. Now, I barely see any updates from friends, it’s all random stuff that I “might be interested in”.
So, what to do? Back to good old fashioned blogging! I haven’t really been updating this site, but now it’s time. And I hope that more people do this too.
All too often I’m having to look up information about events, other companies’ updates, my daughter’s school news, and other random information on Facebook when the public would be much be much better served if the people published it directly to their web sites, outside the control of third party private companies. As we saw when Meta started banning news sites, all this reliance on social media comes to the detriment of us all.
